What the watch app sends
- Your position, to find nearby sasquatch. While the radar or map is open, the app sends your position to sasqtrail.com every 20 seconds. The server uses it to answer and does not store it.
- Sightings you report. A report holds the place and time, your watch model and GPS quality. It is stored and shown on the public map rounded to about 100 m. Only you, signed in, see your own at the exact spot.
- A watch identifier. The app sends your watch's ID to get your web key and with each report. The server keeps only a scrambled (salted hash) form of it, never the ID itself.
The website
- Signing in uses your watch's web key. One cookie keeps you signed in for 90 days. There is no tracking or advertising cookie.
- Photos and comments you send are stored with your key and the name you chose. They stay private until we have checked them, and then they are public. Your browser shrinks each photo and removes its hidden data (such as the camera's GPS position) before sending it.
- The place of a post. Each post needs a spot on the map: one you tap, or your browser's position if you choose "Use my location" (asked once, used only for that post). Once the post is approved, the map shows it rounded to about 100 m. Don't mark your home.
- To limit abuse, the server keeps a scrambled form of the IP address of failed sign-in attempts for up to one day.
- Map tiles come from OpenStreetMap and the map code from unpkg.com; like any website, they see your IP address when your browser loads them.
Removing your data
Write to the support address at the bottom of the home page with your web key, and we will delete your photos, comments and sightings.
Photo rules
Every photo is checked before it goes live. We may refuse or remove any photo or comment.
- Only photos you took yourself.
- No people who haven't agreed to be shown, and no children.
- Nothing violent, sexual, hateful or illegal; no advertising.
- No personal details: addresses, phone numbers, car plates, someone's home.
- Keep comments friendly. Hoaxes are fine, it's a game; harassment is not.
By sending a photo you allow SasqTrail to show it, with your comment and chosen name, on sasqtrail.com. You keep the copyright. Ask us any time to take it down.
